Humble Bundle V – Why Games are Good for Humanity

by Matt Clinks

I realize that I get on my blog quite often to talk about what’s unquestionably awesome. Maybe too often? Either way, I wanted to take a second to point out what may be the best deal in video games in YEARS. You read that correctly, YEARS.

If you haven’t heard of the Humble Bundle, check out this quote from good old reliable wikipedia: “The Humble Indie Bundles or Humble Bundles are a series of game bundles that are sold and distributed online at a price determined by the purchaser. The games are multi-platformDRM-free, and independently developed, and buyers can set the revenue split between the developers, charities and humble bundle organizers.”

That being said, the Humble bundle is always great. It’s always great to support the indie gaming scene, and even better when a portion of the proceeds are going to charity. It’s always a dirt cheap monetary barrier to entry for what you get, but you can increase your donation as high as you would like!

I prefaced all this to say, the Humble Bundle V is one of the best deals in games ever. You get Eight incredible games. “Humble Indie Bundle V features eight modern masterpieces and five epic soundtracks. Experience the fear and paranoia of Amnesia: The Dark Descent; the intensity and impact of LIMBO; the zany characters of Psychonauts; and the future-retro, audiovisual concoction of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. Customers who pay more than the average price will receive the exquisitely crafted action-RPG, Bastion, and also the bundle-in-a-bundle bonus games: the time-warping puzzle platformer, Braid; the mercilessly challenging Super Meat Boy; and the intense psychological horror game, Lone Survivor!”

I have bought most of these games on XBLA at one time or another for around $15 a pop, and I would do it all again without regret…but this thing is letting you pay $8 for $150ish worth of great games. Unreal. In all honesty, the only game I haven’t played yet on this list is Lone Survivor. I hear great things about it and I’m ready to dive in. If it can share the ranks with Braid, Limbo, Bastion, and SMB, it’s probably fine in my book.

Check it out here. You have no excuse.
